On-device vs Pro cloud
Compare North's default on-device tier with the optional Pro cloud tier.
Last updated: July 13, 2026
North is free for every Pulsyn user and runs on your phone by default. Pulsyn Pro adds an optional cloud tier for people who want heavier reasoning, more tools, and a much longer memory window.
Free users always use the on-device model. Pro users can choose between the on-device model and the cloud tier at any time in the app.
Capability comparison
| On-device (free) | Pro cloud | |
|---|---|---|
| Tools | 6 | 12 |
| Reasoning hops per turn | 5 | 25 |
| Context window | 2K–4K | 1,000,000 |
| Memory top-K | 5 | 60 |
What the numbers mean
Tools are functions North can call to fetch or compare data. The Pro cloud tier has access to more tools, so it can run deeper cross-references. For example, connecting a skin-temperature trend to your training load and sleep debt in one response.
Reasoning hops are the internal steps North can take before answering. The on-device model is limited to 5 hops, which keeps answers fast and local. The Pro cloud tier can chain up to 25 hops for complex questions.
Context window is how much of the current conversation North can hold in memory at once. The on-device window is roughly 2K–4K tokens; the Pro cloud window is 1,000,000 tokens, so you can paste a much longer context (like a multi-day travel itinerary or a detailed training block) and keep chatting.
Memory top-K controls how many of your stored memories North can pull into a single response. On-device it can surface the 5 most relevant memories. Pro cloud can draw from 60.
Which should I use?
Start with on-device. It is private, fast, and covers daily coaching, sleep questions, and recovery guidance well.
Switch to Pro cloud when you want North to run bigger experiments, compare months of history, or reason through layered scenarios like jet-lag planning, race tapering, or illness recovery.
You can flip between tiers inside the app. When you choose on-device, your conversation stays on your phone. When you choose Pro cloud, that request is processed in Pulsyn's encrypted EU cloud. See the Data & Privacy section for how each tier handles data.
