Updating your ring's firmware
How over-the-air firmware updates work on Rune 1, from checking the release catalogue to the final Bluetooth transfer.
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Rune 1 receives firmware updates over the air. The Pulsyn app handles the whole process and uses Bluetooth 5.2 BLE to transfer the update to the ring.
Where to find the update screen
Firmware updates live under Settings > Ring > Firmware. Tapping the row opens the dedicated Firmware Update screen.
The update flow
- Check for updates. The app queries the release catalogue stored in Supabase. The catalogue is filtered by your ring's hardware version, so you only see updates your ring can actually run.
- Review the release. A release shows the version number, changelog, download URL, required hardware version, and minimum firmware version required before the update can start.
- Download the binary. The app downloads the update binary in the background.
- Transfer to the ring. The binary is sent to the ring over BLE. A live progress bar shows the transfer status. Keep the ring close to your phone until the transfer finishes.
- Apply and reconnect. The ring briefly restarts to apply the update, then reconnects to the app.
During an update
- Keep the ring near your phone.
- Do not close the app or turn off Bluetooth.
- If the update is interrupted, the ring keeps its previous firmware and the app can retry.
Updates usually take a few minutes. The download runs in the background, so you can use your phone normally. The final transfer works best when the app is in the foreground and the ring is stationary.
Why the update may not appear immediately
If an update is available but not shown, it may be because:
- Your ring's hardware version is not in the target set.
- Your current firmware is below the minimum required version for the next release.
- The update is being rolled out gradually.
