Using Smart Alarm

How Smart Alarm on Rune 1 finds a lighter sleep stage inside your wake window for a gentler start to the day.

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Smart Alarm is a sleep-stage-aware alarm built into Rune 1 and the Pulsyn app. Instead of sounding at one fixed moment, it watches for a lighter stage of sleep inside the wake window you choose. Waking from light sleep usually feels gentler than being pulled out of deep sleep by a fixed-time buzzer.

How it works

You set a window, for example 6:30 to 7:00 AM. The ring monitors your sleep stage through the night and toward the end of the window. When it detects that you are in a lighter stage of sleep, the alarm fires within that window. If you stay in deep sleep through the whole window, it wakes you at the latest time so you still get up on schedule.

Smart Alarm also considers your overnight readiness trend. The app's readiness window adjuster can fine-tune when within the window the alarm is likely to feel most appropriate. This is a wellness feature, not medical advice. It offers a practical way to start the day more smoothly.

Where to set it up

Smart Alarm has its own settings section in the Pulsyn app. Look for Smart Alarm in your alarm or sleep settings. From there you can:

  • Choose your wake window.
  • Set the latest wake-up time.
  • Enable or disable haptic or audio feedback on the ring.
  • Adjust days of the week.

What you need

  • The ring must be charged enough to monitor overnight and trigger the alarm.
  • Bluetooth should be enabled so the ring and app can exchange sleep-stage data.
  • A consistent wake window helps the algorithm learn your pattern.

A realistic expectation

Smart Alarm will not transform you into a morning person overnight. Some mornings you will still be woken from deeper sleep. Over time, though, many users find the flexible window produces a gentler wake-up than a fixed-time alarm.
